Blogger vs. WordPress
March 12, 2008 by diptychal
Is it just me or does wordpress kick blogger’s ass? I started my new blog on blogger simply because wordpress doesn’t allow javascript but then I realised maybe that isn’t really worth the price to pay when your blog doesn’t actually show up in google searches!
I repeated my N800 online tools on my my other blog, and, out of curiosity, I did a little experiment, googling for certain tags in the post. I had changed the title in the blogger post and used that exact phrase to search for the post - and what showed up instead? My wordpress post - which has an entirely different title!

WordPress rules.
WordPress is BY FAR way better platform
However, Blogspot is easier and it’s actually getting better and better by the minute, and on top of all of that it’s owned by Google, so it has a much larger support base
WordPress is like the BMW of blog engines while Blogspot is like the cheapest mass produced car you can find. They’ll both get you from point A to Point B, but WordPress… does it in style … I seriously envy WordPress users! I had to code everything I have on my blog on my own. And let me assure you, that wasn’t a piece of cake!
Qwaider, I would like to say that WP is more like the Mercedes-Benz for me.
WordPress Rocks
Considering that Blogger is owned by Google, I would expect more from them.
Jasim, I thought Mercedes and BMW were of the same class. But Mercedes is more .. old-folksy while BMW is more youthful, but sure, swap BMW for Mercedes and what I said would still hold just fine
Qwaider: I like the analogy
and you’re right.. when I started setting up my blog on blogger, I was surprised at how unintuitive it all was.. but that said.. wordpress is unbelievably limiting in the fact that javascript isn’t allowed. they do make up for it with a lot of the inbuilt settings like the blog stats - but then a service like http://www.sharethis.com/ can’t be used on wordpress.com (only on wordpress.org) cause it’s javascript!
Jasim: You can’t beat the BMW X3!
Hala: That’s exactly what I was thinking. Isn’t it ironic that wordpress is more visible than blogger in the google search engine?
Dude, there’s a simple alternative solution for this. Your WordPress post that has the same title has been online for a longer time. Google spiders don’t crawl the entire web everyday. So when you added your Blogger post, it will need sometime until it shows up in search results.
There are also a million and one other factors that goes into Google’s search algorithm, for example, if some pages have linked to your WordPress post.. then it’s more likely to show-up on the top of the search results….etc.
I think I’m the only Blogger supporter here!
One feature I miss here in WordPress is that there is no ’subscribe’ functionality in the comments area like Blogger. It’s very handy.
No Fesh you see.. with the blog stats on wordpress I can see what searches brought people to this blog - and it doesn’t take long for a new post to lead people here through a search. On blogger - that isn’t the case at all. (And nope.. no links! HA!)
You know technically… you can subscribe to the comments’ RSS feed. I know it’s not the best way to do it - but it’s better than nothing
But over 70% of Arabs I know will NOT post on any blog not SSL secured. Blogpost is SSL secured.
Jumana: Out of curiosity what does that have to do with being Arab? Actually - WordPress is SSL secured as well, and although I’ve been complaining about it - when it comes to javascript - that compromises the security of your blog - so wordpress is actually more secure than blogger.
Maybe it’s because I’m still new to blogging but I didn’t like wordpress. I’m into presentation and color on my blogs and wordpress made it hard to manipulate that. I was spending way to much time figuring things out and not accomplishing anything. Plus I hate categories. I finally finished my newest blog in blogger and love it.
WordPress is NOT SSL secure when you post a comment. it’s plain http not httpS
Arabs worry about government monitoring and crackdowns. an HTTPS connection encrypts the post. a regular HTTP does not.
As I am typing, the URL shows http://diptychal.wordpress.com
but in Blogpost, it will say something like https://…..
the ’s’ means the connection is encrypted from your PC all the way to the server.
I rarely comment on non Blogpost blogs, unless its a trivial comment.
WordPress does not support HTTPS for comments. If I look up right now at the URL as I type, it says http://diptychal.wordpress.com and that’s HTTP without the “S” which means anything I type can be intercepted from my computer all the way to the WordPress server and all the dozens of hubs around the world.
But in Blogpost, the URL would look something like HTTPS://… Notice the S at the end of HTTP. That means by post is encrypted all the way from my computer to the Blogpost server.
Arabs care about this because of government monitoring and crackdowns.
I have to admit I wasn’t aware of that. When you put it in a regional context - I agree with you that it is a serious matter.
